Research: internationalisation within AIRs in a post-Corona society, by Liza Voetman

Research: internationalisation within AIRs in a post-Corona society, by Liza Voetman

I was recently invited to contribute to Liza Voetman her research on internationalisation in a Post-Corona society within AIR(artist in residence) Brabant. In addition to me, Bo Stokkermans and Puck Kroon were also asked to comment or react on the essays.

2020 was slated to be the year of the Internationalisation of the Proeftuin Internationalisering. Due to COVID-19, one could say this has all taken on a slightly different twist than anticipated. But as a subject, it’s no less topical: quite the opposite. The point of departure for this study will be using current events to question the future. It is precisely now, when society appears be at a partial standstill and the crossing of borders is virtually impossible, initiating research into the concept of ‘internationalisation’, which is open to so many interpretations. For this study the objective is to develop a definition of the concept of internationalisation within AIRs in a post-Corona society.

After all, does the closing of borders immediately translate into the stagnation of internationalisation? What, in fact, is being postponed when the duration of these unsettling times is still unclear? Will the societal concept of internationalisation be irrevocably changed? What does this tell us about the values embedded in the concept itself?

Voetman, L. Articles for Internationalisation Research. Retrieved from https://airbrabant.nl/en/research-project/internationalisation-research/

The research and my contribution (in Dutch) are up on the AIR Brabant website. Thank you Liza for asking me.

All articles for the research can be found here. For my article you can click here.

Inversie TalentHub

Inversie TalentHub

Hi everyone, I just wanted to give you an update on my work and upcoming exhibitions.

Last year I was chosen for the talent development program of Inversie TalentHub.
Inversie is a TalentHub for young, emerging artists. With the help of mentors, a large network and personal guidance, Inversie supports its talents in setting up an independent professional practice.

I’ve had access to a personal mentor, Cécile Verwaaijen, who personally guides and helps me find my way in my art practice. This has helped me a lot and showed so much within my artistry.

Together with the other Inversie talents I will be exhibiting at This Art Fair and KunstLoc at the end of this summer. More info soon to follow!

Housewarming

Housewarming

This September the House of Manawi Keke will organise their second group exhibition. The event will take place at TAC in Eindhoven. Aside of being one of the participating artists I’m also involved in organizing the event.

The House of Manawi Keke is an art initiative with six visual artists, forming an “Art House”. Every individual artist has a strong vision and creates visually exuberant work.

During the Housewarming exhibition the artists want to create a space where the works come together as a home. A melting pot of personalities expressed in textiles, paintings and writing.

I came up with the home concept to make the artists meet on a more personal note.

The House of Manawi Keke members are Jeanine Vloemans, Keke van de Ven, Marloes Vreeswijk, Eva Trianti, Janneke Sars and myself.

For more information you can visit the TAC website or take a look at our Facebook event!

Visit the exhibit from 5/9 – 20/9, open every Wednesday from 18:00 – 21:00. Thursday and Friday from 16:00 – 21:00. Saturday and Sunday from 13:00 – 21:00.

TAC, Vonderweg 1, 5611BK in Eindhoven.

Hope to see you all there!

Bad Feminist

Bad Feminist

Joyful to announce that I am one of the participating artist during the Bad Feminist exhibition at Melkweg Expo. Even though I don’t consider my work as purely feminist art, it does share a lot of common ground.

Melkweg Expo gives the stage to contemporary feminist artists. They represent a new generation of visual artists who use their art to tackle feminist issues and they create a universe for the bad, the bold and the brave feminist.

Melkweg Expo provides a platform for contemporary expressions of the feminist movement in its latest wake.

The activist artists take on outdated patriarchal systems, misogynist language, sexism in music and encourage the exchange of information on feminist issues. Armed with the power of language and visuals, they spark small revolutions and challenge audiences with their installations, videos and visual artwork. Disrupt your understanding of feminism and feel free to speak out, question and unleash the Bad Feminist within.

NAP Nieuws has interviewed some of the artists including myself and wrote an article about the exhibition.

Opening February 7th at 18:00 ‘til March 8th. Tuesday until Sunday 11:00 – 23:00. Entrance via MILK café, Lijnbaansgracht 234a 1017 PH Amsterdam.

The Archive Hotel

The Archive Hotel

Recently I was asked to make a spread for the 3rd edition of the Archive Hotel. The Archive Hotel is an online platform and publication that stimulates the artist research. The 3rd edition is out now, check it out here!

For the spread I mostly used my analog/digital photo archive. This is usually a part of my work proces that stays hidden for the viewer.
