Joyful to announce that I am one of the participating artist during the Bad Feminist exhibition at Melkweg Expo. Even though I don’t consider my work as purely feminist art, it does share a lot of common ground.
Melkweg Expo gives the stage to contemporary feminist artists. They represent a new generation of visual artists who use their art to tackle feminist issues and they create a universe for the bad, the bold and the brave feminist.
Melkweg Expo provides a platform for contemporary expressions of the feminist movement in its latest wake.
The activist artists take on outdated patriarchal systems, misogynist language, sexism in music and encourage the exchange of information on feminist issues. Armed with the power of language and visuals, they spark small revolutions and challenge audiences with their installations, videos and visual artwork. Disrupt your understanding of feminism and feel free to speak out, question and unleash the Bad Feminist within.
NAP Nieuws has interviewed some of the artists including myself and wrote an article about the exhibition.
Opening February 7th at 18:00 ‘til March 8th. Tuesday until Sunday 11:00 – 23:00. Entrance via MILK café, Lijnbaansgracht 234a 1017 PHAmsterdam.
Recently I was asked to make a spread for the 3rd edition of the Archive Hotel. The Archive Hotel is an online platform and publication that stimulates the artist research. The 3rd edition is out now, check it out here!
For the spread I mostly used my analog/digital photo archive. This is usually a part of my work proces that stays hidden for the viewer.

For the past two weeks I’ve been working as an artist in residence at Witte Rook in Breda. These last couple of days I’ve been busy making art, exploring truth’s and putting a magnifying glass on my own reality. One of the main inspirations has been Peter Struycken’s tile work for the old railway station in Breda. My work however took a turn in a completely different direction.
Witte Rook also published an article about my process, you can read it here.
Feel welcome to visit the end result this weekend. The opening will take place on Friday 13th 19:30 – 22:00. Also open on 14/12, 15/12 from 13:00 – 17:00. Witte rook, Stationslaan 111 4815GW Breda.
Saturday October 5th I will be showing some new work at a solo show for The Orchid and the Wasp. An Ode to Rice will be a celebration of the food that’s often associated with lower income countries. This project is a first step in my new studies, questioning the Western gaze.
The Orchid and the Wasp is a project space by curator Maud Oonk initiated in 2015. She instigates exhibitions, encouraging artists to experiment with new ways of presenting by focusing on their making process.
You’re welcome from 15:00 – 19:00 at the NDSM Werf, T.T. Neveritaweg 59, 1033 WB Amsterdam. If you need any more information you can find it here.
A couple of weeks ago The House of Manawi Keke was born. An art platform for young artists, created by me and my friend Keke van de Ven. We wanted to create opportunities, offer feedback and help out our fellow young artists. MAMA, Rotterdam gave us the chance to put the house to work. After participating in their Summer Swap program, they gave us the opportunity to use their space for two weeks.
So without further ado, I’d like to present Mixed Nuts; Tales of our own perception. The exhibition will contain works of Jeanine Vloemans, Keke van de Ven, Marloes Vreeswijk and myself. Apart from exhibiting I will also be curating the show. Art events will take place through out our time. For more information, click here!
Exhibiton opening times 12:00 – 17:00 on 29-8, 30-8, 31-8 and 1-9, 5-9, 6-9 september.
On May 11th, Arash Fakhim and I will host a workshop at gastatelier Leo XIII.
A home as an object, filled with an impression that is purely personal. How does one describe such a thing that merely exists in your own reality? We offer you the chance to experience the realities of the other.
By hosting a workshop that’s centered around objects that remind you of home. This way we try to overcome the distance between these realities to create an universal feeling. A feeling that will be translated into physical works.
This Workshop will have an additional performance

The last two months I’ve worked on this fun project with fellow artist and initiator Keke van de Ven. The magazine is a combination of out interest in art and fashion magazines. The workprocess was balanced between working digital and analog. I couldn’t be more happy with the results.
The following two months I will be collaborating on the second issue of Artless Magazine. Artless Magazine is an online artzine created by artist Keke van de Ven. Every issue one artist will be asked to collaborate and experiment to shape the zine.
Check out the first issue with artist Evi van der Kant here!
