Last February I had a week-long residency at the Bewaerschole in Burgh-Haamstede for the program: Nomadic living, wandering in times of overpopulation. The program asks contemporary artists to reflect on and experiment with certain social current events and urgencies.
During my residency at the Bewaerschole, I thought a lot about migration and the meaning of “home”. In the months leading up to my exhibition ‘Roaming Epics’, I created several new works in my studio. With these works I tell fictional stories about a nomadic group traveling the world. The stories are told through large banners decorated with images of good and evil. They appear to be mythical scenes passed down through generations, but many of the images can also be traced back to the here and now. A fusion of cultures and generations.
In addition to the exhibition at the Bewaerschole, a work is also on display at the Burghse Schoole in Burgh-Haamstede.
